// the backstory
In the books, the original clans left the old forest due to humans taking over in hopes to build more houses. Setting fire to the forest, the humans destroyed nearly all of the land that the original clans had called home. Moons passed and construction on the forest ended due to a lack of funding and forest overgrowth. After realizing that the forest was still lush with life, no one ended up wanting to live around so much wildlife due to the chances of disease and safety. With the humans leaving the forest, partially destroyed, animals and plants began to regrow throughout the lands. As the forest came back to life, even better than before, StarClan saw the opportunity for a new generation of clans to start.
An omen was called out to four specific cats, the four ancestors with the blood from each of the four original clans. The cats that would make up these new clans would all be impure: kittypets, loners, or rogues. StarClan commanded them, informing them that it was their fate of the forest. A rumble of Thunder would create a steep Rift. A splash of River would turn into a wild Torrent. A shade of Shadow would turn into the darkness of a Cavern. And a rush of Wind would turn into a gust of Gale. These four new clans would rise from the ashes, claiming the lands that the original clans once ruled. It was their destiny... it was their revival.

Descending from the great cats themselves,
Comes four new paws treading old lands.
But beware the traitors that lurk within,
Because even StarClan can not make amends.

Four cats, each a clan leader, have bloodlines descending from each of the four original clans. star, of Rift, descends from Thunder. , of Gale, descends from Wind. Spiderstar, of Cavern, descends from Shadow. And star, of Torrent, descends from River. These four cats were destined by StarClan to create four new clans that replaced the four original clans. With these four new leaders, comes four new groups full of new warriors. It's the revival of the forest.
